

Kitchen Manager
The Kitchen Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Glasshouse Country Care kitchen, ensuring the safe, efficient, and high-quality preparation and delivery of nutritious meals to clients, primarily older people or people with a disability living at home or attending day centre activities. This role includes oversight of staff and volunteers, food safety compliance, menu planning in collaboration with dietitians (where applicable), stock control, food and meal budgets and continuous service improvement.
The Kitchen Manager assists the General Manager via effective and efficient provision of Meals on Wheels / Food services to maintain older people and younger people with disabilities to remain living independently at home.
The Kitchen Manager will provide a leadership role in the development and management of the kitchen assistants and, with the General Manager, manage and meet all relevant Food Safety Regulations. This will be demonstrated by effective and efficient provision of food services including meals on wheels and catering for centre-based day care and disability programs.
DUTIES
-
Providing Meals on Wheels for service users of Glasshouse Country Care (GHCC).

Providing other food related services including catering for centre-based day care for aged and disability clients.

Order supplies and manage inventory to minimise waste and control costs.

Monitor kitchen expenses and contribute to budget planning

Create and deliver meals that remain within individual meal budgets

Meeting grant requirements in relation to the number of meals provided

Collaborate with dietitians and / or program managers to develop rotating menus.

Respond to client feedback regarding meal preferences and dietary needs.

Supervise and participate in the preparation, cooking, portioning, and packaging of meals.

Ensure meals meet nutritional, dietary, and cultural requirements of clients.

Delegation of appropriate kitchen duties to kitchen assistants.

Supervise, support, and roster kitchen staff and volunteers.

Provide training and guidance in food safety and kitchen procedures.

Foster a positive, respectful team culture.

Maintain a clean, safe, and efficient kitchen in line with food safety regulations and local Council requirements.

Meeting standards for food safety and complete daily, weekly and monthly checklists
-
Promote safety by following organisational WHS requirements and guidelines

Communicate respectfully with all individuals including service users, representatives, staff and the community

Contribute to continuous improvement by involvement in staff meetings, planning days, and feedback mechanisms

Communicate regularly with the General Manager regarding provision of Meals on Wheels and menus

Liaise with Day Program Manager regarding centre menus and special diets

Liaise with Administration and Maintenance Managers when required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Essential:
-
Qualification in Commercial Cookery or equivalent experience in a meal preparation environment

Certificate in Food Safety Supervisor (or willingness to obtain).

Demonstrated experience managing a kitchen and leading a team
-
Knowledge of and commitment to food safety and hygiene regulations, including Food Safety programs and Local Council Food requirements.

Ability to manage time effectively and work under pressure.
-
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
-
Competent in basic computer use (e.g., email, ordering systems).
Desirable:
-
Experience working with older adults or in a community service setting.
-
Knowledge of dietary needs relating to aged care clients.
-
First Aid and CPR (or willingness to obtain).
