Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP)
Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP) services are designed to give older Australians the extra help they need to live safely, comfortably, and independently at home, whether it’s assistance with everyday tasks, transport, social activities, or keeping your home well-maintained.
Am I eligible?
To be eligible for the Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP), you need to be 65 or older (or 50 or older for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people) and require ongoing support to live at home. Exceptions to age eligibility include people who are on a low income and are homeless or at risk of homelessness.
The next step to accessing CHSP services is to contact My Aged Care.
They will arrange a home support assessment to confirm your eligibility and
determine the right level of support needed for you to stay independent at home.
What will it cost?
CHSP supports older Australians who need just a little bit of help to stay independent. It gives people access to individual services at a subsidised cost. Clients pay a small co-contribution for their services, and support can be increased or reduced as your needs change.
Inclusions and exclusions
CHSP funds a range of services to support your daily life such as cleaning, meal preparation, shopping, personal care, transport to medical appointments or social outings, respite support for carers, and minor home maintenance and modifications. It does not cover services or items that are considered normal living expenses.
