Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP)

Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP) services are designed to give older Australians the extra help they need to live safely, comfortably, and independently at home, whether it’s assistance with everyday tasks, transport, social activities, or keeping your home well-maintained.

Am I eligible?

Eligible icon 2.png

To be eligible for the Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP), you need to be 65 or older (or 50 or older for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people) and require ongoing support to live at home. Exceptions to age eligibility include people who are on a low income and are homeless or at risk of homelessness.

The next step to accessing CHSP services is to contact My Aged Care. They will arrange a home support assessment to confirm your eligibility.

What will it cost?

CHSP services are not income tested. The cost of services is partly subsidised by the Australian Government so that fees stay reasonable and affordable. Depending on their circumstances, clients will pay a small out-of-pocket contribution.

Inclusions and exclusions

CHSP funds a range of services to support your daily life, but do not cover services or items that are considered normal living expenses, or costs covered by other government programs.
