Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP)

As you get older, everyday tasks can become more difficult. Even though you need help, you may still want to live at home. Asking for help doesn’t mean losing your independence or moving out of home.

The Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) helps senior Australians access entry-level care and support services to live independently and safely at home. Ongoing or short-term services can include help with housework, personal care, meals and food preparation, transport, shopping, social support, planned respite and referrals to allied health providers.

If you would like any more information on accessing the Commonwealth Home Support Programme or the services Glasshouse Country Care can provide, please give us a call us on 07 5494 6948.

Am I eligible?

Eligibility for the Commonwealth Home Support Program is based on your support needs and age.

To be eligible for this program, you must be aged:

65 years or older (50 years or older for Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people), or

50 years or older (45 years or older for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people) and on a low income, homeless, or at risk of being homeless.

The first step to accessing CHSP services is to contact My Aged Care through their website or on 1800 200 422. My Aged Care will arrange a home support assessment to determine your eligibility.

What will I need to contribute?

The Australian Government subsidises service providers so that fees stay reasonable and affordable.

If you are eligible for CHSP services you will pay a subsidised rate for the services you receive from your provider, if you can afford to. You don’t need a financial assessment and there is only one fee per service and no exit costs.
