Home Care Packages

You may find that some things are becoming more difficult for you to manage and in order to stay at home you need extra help. A Home Care Package may assist you to do this in conjunction with your family, friends and other community resources. You can tailor your Home Care Package with Glasshouse Country Care to best support your needs and goals by working in partnership with us. Being partners is an important part of the process, and will help you to get the most out of the care and services available to you.

The Australian Government subsidises Home Care Package services, however you may be asked to contribute to the cost of your care if you can afford to do so.

Income-tested care fee

Depending on your income, you may be asked to pay an income-tested care fee. To determine whether you are required to pay this additional fee, you will be asked to do the following:

  • If you are on an Age Pension, Disability Support Pension, Carer Allowance, or Mobility Allowance, call the Department of Human Services on 1800 227 475 to confirm whether you are exempt from the income-tested care fee or if your fees can be determined without submitting a form
  • If you are a veteran or widow/er, call the Department of Veterans’ Affairs on 1800 555 254 to confirm whether you are exempt from the income-tested care fee or if your fees can be determined without submitting a form
  • For all others, submit an Aged Care Fees Income Assessment form (SA 456) to the Department of Human Services

You can choose not to confirm your eligibility or submit a form, however you may be asked to contribute the maximum amount if you don’t.

The Department of Human Services or Department of Veterans’ Affairs will review your form and send you a letter to advise you of the maximum amount that your service provider can ask you to pay. If you do not agree with the decision, you can ask the department to review it. The letter is valid for 120 days (4 months).

Each package level has a different amount of funding (subsidy) that is paid to your provider by the Australian Government to deliver your care and services. You can find out more on the subsidy rates at the Department of Social Services’ website www.dss.gov.au.

The range and level of services you receive under your home care package depends on your assessed care needs and the funds available under your Home Care Package. The Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT) will do this assessment and choose which level of package is suitable for you.

There are four levels of home care packages:

  • Home care level 1: supports people with basic care needs.
  • Home care level 2: supports people with low level care needs.
  • Home care level 3: supports people with intermediate care needs.
  • Home care level 4: supports people with high care needs.

This is the best part! You tell us what you need and we make it happen, whether that’s getting help with showering or house cleaning, getting your hair done, or organising your transport for social support or shopping.


We do not charge a basic daily care fee, travel or set-up fees

There are four levels of Home Care Package for different care and support needs.

Glasshouse Country Care levels offer:

Level 1 for basic care needs which allows for up to 3 hours of service per week.

Level 2 for low-level care needs which allows for up to 5 hours of service per week.

Level 3 for intermediate care needs which allows for up to 10 hours of service per week

Level 4 for high-level care needs which allows for up to 16 hours of service per week

The subsidy is reviewed twice per year

We have an Exit Fee of $250 for administration costs

Changing Providers

Home care package holders are able to change their provider if they are unhappy with their services or move. In most cases, your current provider will charge you an exit fee which will be taken from the funds available in your package. Talk with your provider for the cost that applies to you as these are different for each provider.
